OFFICIAL STATEMENT — SWINE FLU

To our beloved customers,

I am taking the time to write to you today to allay any concerns you may have about our products being directly, or peripherally, affected by the recent outbreak of swine flu. We care about you, our customers, like no other food company. And, we are here to protect your, and your family's, health and wellbeing.

My letter comes on the heels of some deeply disturbing news out of Texas that a Mexican toddler who came to the United States with his family to visit relatives in Texas has died in Houston of the swine flu. This is the first confirmed death from swine flu in the U.S.

This global pandemic impresses upon us, yet again, that commercial, conventional food production too often puts our health, and the health of our children, at grave risk.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that swine flu should not reach you through food, but that is based on the limited information they have. Dr. Richard E. Besser, the acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, had some unsettling words in a news conference Wednesday: “[Our data] are almost out of date by the time we state them."

We will say, with categorical confidence, that all of our ORGANIC FOOD BAR products are completely safe. ORGANIC FOOD BAR products will not be affected by this outbreak, because ORGANIC FOOD BAR has never – and will never – use any animal products in any of our bars.
