For over 25yrs I have exposed myself to some fairly rigorous challenges, some of it of epic proportions, friends and acquaintances shake their heads when I tell a story or two. During those challenges I pushed beyond my perceived limitations and learned things about myself along the way, it has made me a richer and more complete person for it. I enjoy the spirit of adventure and the hardships that can sometimes accompany that journey, I always look forward to stepping into the unknown.

I’ve faced adversity in deserts, the Arctic, rainforests and high mountains; in over 30 countries I have always looked to put myself to the test, always with an eye towards – can I do it? Over the last couple of years I have found a new passion that offers a pretty stiff challenge, competing as a solo racer at endurance mountain bike races. I consider anything longer than 6 hours to be challenging if it’s done at a strong race pace but things get really interesting once you start racing the 12 hour and 24 hour races. There is so much to consider during these events; the terrain, weather, nutrition, hydration, pacing, equipment, support, the competition, strategy, goals, the list can become quite long. I have been lucky enough to compete in the 2007 and 2008 Solo 24 hour Mountain Bike World Championship races and even managed to get on a podium. Along the way to those championships I have competed in enough endurance races to meet loads of great people, enjoy the warm camaraderie and be inspired by others. Meeting those people and being inspired by them is a large part of why I do these events.
Recently I had my 45thbirthday and in two weeks I will compete in a 48 hour solo mountain bike race, the first of its kind sanctioned by USA Cycling. During a 24 hour race I don’t sleep and I typically don’t stop, I’m not sure what I will do during this 48 hour race but I’m looking to push myself hard enough that I don’t have any regrets when it’s finished and I’m sure along the way I’ll learn a thing or two about myself, this kind of racing will always teach you something about yourself.
I live a healthy lifestyle as a competitive athlete, I pay attention to what I eat and how I train. Over the years I have tried pretty much every single bar out there, when I finally came across the ORGANIC FOOD BAR product I couldn’t believe how different it was from the rest of the market. It is my bar of choice, it’s a bar I enjoy eating, I try to eat them as often as possible, I recommend it to anyone who asks me what kind of bar to buy. In fact, I recommended it to someone earlier today, while I had a bar in my pocket.
Three hours before I start any big race you will find me eating an ORGANIC FOOD BAR, I can assure you that when I put my toe on the start line of this upcoming 48 hour solo mountain bike race I will have already started my preparation that morning by eating my favorite Wild Blueberry bar, what a great way to start a race!
Thanks for providing such a great product.
